Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, OON, stands at the helm of Fidelity Bank Plc as its Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, leading one of Nigeria’s prominent financial institutions with a clientele exceeding 9 million customers.
Nneka’s journey with Fidelity Bank began in 2015 when she assumed the role of Executive Director. Her ascent to the position of Managing Director/CEO in January 2021 marked a significant milestone, as she became the first female to hold this esteemed position in the bank’s history.
Educated at the esteemed University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Kings College, London, Nneka boasts a Bachelor of Law and Master of Law. Her pursuit of excellence led her to executive training programs at prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, The Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, and INSEAD School of Business, among others. Recently, she completed a Diploma program in Organizational Leadership at Said Business School, Oxford University, UK. Her academic achievements were further complemented by an honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The Federal Government of Nigeria recognized her contributions by conferring upon her the national award of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2023.
With over 32 years of enriching experience in the banking sector, spanning roles at Citizens International Bank, Zenith Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank, among others, Nneka’s expertise is unparalleled. She has played pivotal roles in structuring complex transactions across diverse sectors such as Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Aviation, Real Estate, and Export.
Nneka’s leadership is characterized by authenticity and a keen eye for talent and opportunities, traits that have propelled her to the forefront of Africa’s female CEOs. Her tenure has seen remarkable growth for Fidelity Bank, evidenced by the increase in Profit Before Tax from N25.22 billion in FY 2021 to N122 billion in FY 2023. Looking ahead, Nneka is focused on leveraging opportunities in high-growth international markets where the bank holds a competitive edge. Recently, she spearheaded the bank’s expansion into the United Kingdom through the acquisition of Fidelity Bank UK Limited.
Passionate about innovation, Nneka has introduced pioneering products like PayGate Plus, an online platform facilitating seamless business transactions. Moreover, she has positioned Fidelity Bank as a cornerstone for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through initiatives like the Fidelity International Trade & Creative Connect (FITCC), fostering global connections for exporters and regulators.
In her commitment to social responsibility, Nneka launched The Fidelity Food Bank, providing monthly food supplies to underserved communities across Nigeria. Her efforts in restructuring and reviving the fortunes of erstwhile Enterprise Bank earned commendation from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Nneka’s exemplary leadership has garnered numerous accolades for Fidelity Bank, both domestically and internationally. Noteworthy awards include Best Commercial Banking Brand in Nigeria, Best Private Bank in Nigeria, and Trade Ambassador Award by the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC), among others.
