The announcement by Dr Bonnie Burke, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, that an inquest will be held into the death of Victor Ogundipe has taken another twist as the inquest has been postponed.
Ogundipe, 41, died recently in hospital after he was transferred from the Toronto South Detention Centre. An inquest is compulsory under the Coroners Act.

It should be recalled that the inquest was scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022 and Dr David Cameron was expected to preside as inquest officer with Kathy Nedelkopoulos as the inquest counsel.
After discussing with the parties and in the best interests of the inquest, the inquest into the death of Victor Ogundipe was postponed.
The inquest will look into the circumstances surrounding Mr Ogundipe’s death. The jury may offer recommendations that will prevent further deaths.
The inquest will last for 10 days and hear from 14 witnesses.
Further information will follow when it is available.
