Two Indians were intercepted by the Lagos Airport Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). According to NIS, the Indians would be duly prosecuted.
While talking about the interception, the spokesman of NIS, Sunday James said the Indians were intercepted by the Service at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja for unlawfully entering the country without proper documentation.
The Airport Comptroller of Immigration, Abdullahi Usman was quoted by James as saying that the Indians were intercepted when Indians that were being evacuated from Nigeria through Lagos Airport were being screened.
He said Immigration authorities found out that they came into Nigeria through the land border and possesed visa on arrival application approval that they did not present to Immigration officials at the border.
According to him, the Indians had been in Cotonou, Benin Republic for one month as they had Benin Republic’s stamp dated 9th February 2020 when they left and came into Nigeria illegally.
He stated further that investigations revealed that they did not present themselves at the border for Immigration checks, as such, the duo who are 32 and 29 years old would be made to face the law in accordance with the Nigeria Immigration laws as deterrence to others.
Meanwhile, 446 Indians were evacuated from Nigeria last weekend as part of the continuous evacuation of foreign nationals due to the covid 19 pandemic.
The Nigeria Immigration Service Comptroller General, Muhammad Babandede has also warned migrants to stop contravening the Immigration laws of countries of transit or destination so as to avoid sanctions.
