High school students in Windsor have expressed concern about the prevalence of vaping on school property, with some disclosing not enough is being done to stop it.
Students said they saw others vaping in bathrooms, hallways, and outside on school grounds. Some even said students are vaping openly in hallways. The issue does not only occur in public schools as students of Catholic schools have also reported a high incidence of vaping.
Stephen Fields, Communications Co-ordinator for the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, confirmed that vaping is a major issue among young people and that the board has put in place a drug awareness strategy to tackle it. The strategy includes resources for parents on vaping, which connects to the federal government’s tip sheet for educating teens about vaping.

Fields also disclosed that schools “periodically call in the tobacco enforcement experts of the local health unit if they believe it’s a problem in their building.”
Despite these efforts, a lot of students have called for more action to be taken to tackle vaping on school property. They say that the current effort is not enough to stop it and that the issue is widespread.
