376 stranded Nigerians in war-torn Sudan that were evacuated to Egypt have been successfully airlifted to Nigeria. This was the first batch of evacuees that arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The evacuation process was monitored by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C-130H aircraft was involved. The evacuees arrived at the Argeen border on April 26 for airlifting in Aswan, Egypt. The NAF aircraft departed Aswan and landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja last night.

The Chairperson of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had tweeted that the first batch of evacuees from Sudan would arrive in Nigeria on Wednesday night. She also revealed that that the Mission in Egypt was making concrete arrangements for the payment of visa fees for stranded Nigerians at the border of the country.
Families and loved ones who have been anxiously waiting for the safe return of the evacuees were happy to hear that the evacuees arrived safely in Nigeria. The Nigerian government has restated its commitment to ensuring the safe return of every stranded Nigerian abroad and will continue to work towards achieving this aim.
