The Hamilton Fire Department has disclosed that the ban on open-air burning will be lifted starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow (June 13) as air quality in the city has improved.
While making the disclosure in a press release, the department said every property owner that hold a valid open-air burn permit will be allowed to resume open-air burning, following the guidelines provided with the permit.
The department said: “We would like to thank the residents of Hamilton for their co-operation during the burn ban.”
Hamilton’s Air Quality Health Index is rated three and considered “low risk” as of noon today (June 12).

Burn permits apply only to properties within the rural areas of Hamilton.
The ban was effected on June 7 because of poor air quality emanating from the wildfires in Ontario and Quebec as well as concerns about “an elevated risk of wildland and grass fires.”
According to the City, residents don’t need a permit in rural and urban areas to use an outdoor propane or natural gas fire pit. Also, they can cook food on a grill or a barbecue as long as it’s a “small, confined fire that is supervised at all times.”
