Fruit Navigating Fruit-Drug Interactions: What You Need to Know

Here are some dos and don’ts when it comes to certain medicines and fruits:

Medicine:

Dos:

Follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage and instructions carefully.

Take your medication at the same time each day, if possible, to maintain consistency.

Store your medication in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Keep a record of your medication schedule to avoid missing doses.

Be aware of potential side effects and report any unusual reactions to your healthcare provider.

Don’ts:

Don’t share your prescription medication with others, as it may not be safe for them.

Don’t crush or split pills unless advised by your healthcare provider.

Don’t consume alcohol if it interacts negatively with your medication.

Don’t stop taking your medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.

Don’t take expired medication; dispose of it properly.

Fruits:

Dos:

Wash fruits thoroughly under running water to remove dirt and pesticides.

Store fruits in a clean, dry place or in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.

Eat a variety of fruits to ensure a balanced intake of vitamins and nutrients.

Consume fruits as part of a healthy diet for added fiber and natural sugars.

Experiment with different ways to enjoy fruits, such as in smoothies or fruit salads.

Don’ts:

Don’t consume spoiled or moldy fruits; discard them to avoid foodborne illnesses.

Don’t overeat fruits excessively high in sugar if you have diabetes or are watching your sugar intake.

Don’t peel fruits unnecessarily, as some of the fiber and nutrients are found in the skin.

Don’t rely solely on fruit for all your nutritional needs; maintain a balanced diet.

Don’t store fruits with strong odors (e.g., onions) as they can affect the taste of the fruits.

Remember, it’s essential to consult with healthcare professionals for specific medication guidance and dietary recommendations based on your individual health needs.
