Toronto Police has arrested four suspects (three men and a woman) in connection with the recent murder of 23-year-old Ghanaian-Canadian, Michael Oppong Berchie, in Toronto.
This development was contained in a release issued and signed by Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu, Corporate Communications for detective Leslie Dunkley of Toronto Homicide Unit and posted on its public website recently.
Toronto Police disclosed that the three suspects 24-year-old Kevon Shemar Foo, 21-year-old Day Juan Francis and 21-year-old Jasanthan Kandiah all from the City of Toronto have been arrested.
The three suspects were each charged with first degree murder, attempt to murder and discharge of fire arm with intent and they all appeared in court at Old City Hall recently.
According to Toronto Police, due to these arrests, search warrants were executed at different locations which include one at a residence in Kipling Avenue and Steeles Avenue West area.
Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu, revealed that officers discovered 9mm rounds of ammunition and 40 calibre rounds, an extreme magazine loaded with 9mm rounds, an automatic Kalashnikova [AK-47] rifle that was loaded and a loaded magazine with 7.62 mm rounds.
She revealed further that on February 14, 2021, 20-year-old Jessica Madeleine Roy of Toronto was also apprehended and charged with three counts of careless warehousing of ammunition, careless storage of fire arm, unauthorized possession of a fire arm, possession of fire arm knowing fully well that its possession is unauthorized, possession of fire arm that is prohibited with ammunition and two counts of possession of a device that is prohibited.
Also, Jessica Madeleine appeared in old City Hall court on February 15, 2021.
Michael Oppong Berchie was shot and killed on February 8, 2021, at around 9:47 p.m. in Lawrence Avenue West and Sage Avenue area in Toronto.
The Toronto Police said it swung into action when it heard via a call that there was sound of gunshots in the previously mentioned community in the city.
Two people were in a vehicle and one of them (a man), sustained gunshot wounds and when he was taken to trauma center he was certified dead.
Eye witnesses informed Toronto Police officers that series of gunshots were heard and a vehicle was seen leaving the scene with high speed and the deceased was later found out to be Michael Oppong Berchie from Brampton.
“Two suspects described as being in all dark clothing were observed fleeing the scene in the suspect vehicle, which was described as a light-colored four-door compact SUV.
“It was later seen travelling westbound Lawrence Avenue West and southbound Dufferin Street” the Toronto Police said as it appeal to the general public has led to the arrest of the four suspects and the capture of fire arms and ammunitions during the weekend.
