Former Trump CFO, Gets 5-Month Jail Sentence for Perjury

Allen Weisselberg, the former Chief Financial Officer of the Trump Organization, has been sentenced to five months in jail after admitting to perjury charges related to false statements about Donald Trump’s financial dealings. The sentence was delivered by Judge Laurie Peterson in a Manhattan criminal court, fulfilling the terms set during Weisselberg’s March 4 plea agreement.

The 76-year-old was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing, which occurred during a brief court session. This marks Weisselberg’s second incarceration, following a three-month term at Rikers Island in 2023 for his involvement in a 15-year tax evasion scheme within the Trump Organization.

The latest charges against Weisselberg arose from his testimony in a civil fraud trial initiated by New York State Attorney General Letitia James. The trial focused on allegations that Trump, Weisselberg, and other Trump Organization executives manipulated property values to deceive lenders and insurers. Specifically, Weisselberg falsely testified about the valuation of Trump’s Manhattan townhouse, which was grossly overstated in financial statements for 2015 and 2016.

Email evidence presented by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office indicated Weisselberg’s close monitoring of the property’s valuation. He also confessed to lying during two prior depositions with James’ office, which ultimately led to a significant $454 million penalty against Trump for property valuation fraud, currently under appeal.

Justice Arthur Engoron, in related proceedings, also ordered Weisselberg to pay $1.1 million, including interest. Weisselberg, who had been a key figure in Trump’s business operations for over 50 years, did not agree to cooperate with further investigations as part of his plea deal.

This development occurs as Donald Trump faces impending legal challenges, including a trial over alleged hush money payments and multiple indictments related to his actions following the 2020 presidential election and his management of sensitive documents. Trump has denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
