Former Meeting House Pastor, Bruxy Cavey, Faces Additional Sexual Assault Charges

Two additional charges of sexual assault have been brought against Bruxy Cavey, the former pastor of one of Canada’s largest megachurches, as part of a separate investigation involving a second complainant. Hamilton police disclosed the new charges, which are unrelated to the previous allegations and trial currently underway. The charges pertain to two alleged assaults on the same individual in 1997 and 2007, as outlined in court documents and statements from the police.

Bruxy Cavey, who served as the pastor at The Meeting House, had his sermons broadcasted in movie theaters and satellite churches across the province. Facing previous sexual assault charges laid last year based on a former congregant’s accusations, Cavey’s trial is pending. The latest charges have emerged on the eve of his trial, adding complexity to the legal proceedings.

Cavey’s lawyer, Megan Savard, expressed regret that a new and unrelated allegation has surfaced, emphasizing Cavey’s continued assertion of innocence. Despite these challenges, Cavey remains focused on defending himself in court and is committed to clearing his name during the upcoming trial.

The initial allegations against Cavey came to light in December 2021, prompting his resignation from the megachurch after 25 years of service. The congregant, protected by a court-ordered publication ban, accused Cavey of exploiting his position of power to coerce her into a secret sexual relationship.

In response to the allegations, Cavey acknowledged the truth at the core of the claims in a blog post titled “My confession.” Describing the situation as his “greatest failure” and “darkest sin,” Cavey accepted full responsibility for his actions and expressed deep regret for his role as a spiritual leader.

In August 2022, the Oakville megachurch substantiated additional allegations against Cavey, including one involving a minor. It is essential to note that the criminal charges against Cavey have not been proven in court, and the legal proceedings are ongoing.
