Flair Airlines passengers went through a 10-hour ordeal with no food or water

Passengers have disclosed that they were stuck in the cabin of a Flair Airlines flight for around 10 hours this week, warding off hunger and thirst by sharing snacks and drinking from the bathroom sink during a draining airline odyssey.

Their flight was from Toronto to Saskatoon but got delayed. When it initially got to Saskatoon, it turned around to Winnipeg where it stayed on the tarmac for around two hours without airline-provided food. It later headed right back to Toronto.

While referencing one bottle of water that was shared among passengers, Carmen Szabo said: “They said there was no food or drink to purchase and they offered water once in 10 hours.” She said other than that, flight attendants “were getting water from the bathroom,” she said.

Szabo described her experience and that of her 17-year-old daughter as “traumatic.”

She said Flair gave her and her daughter a $10 meal voucher each at the Toronto airport, which according to her was insufficient.

Szabo is not the only passenger that felt mistreated by Flair Airlines. Many passengers took to social media to vent their anger and frustration with the low-cost carrier.

Some passengers revealed they were not given any explanation or updates from the crew during the ordeal while others stated that they were not permitted to disembark in Winnipeg or get their luggage back.

Also, some passengers said they missed important appointments, work or school because of the flight issue.

Many passengers have demanded compensation and an apology from Flair Airlines for the inconvenience and distress they went through.

Flair Airlines issued a statement to apologize to the affected passengers and cited weather and operational issues as the reasons for the flight disruption.

The airline said it made efforts to accommodate the passengers as best as it could but encountered challenges due to limited resources and availability of hotels and food.

Also, the airline said it offered passengers a full refund or a credit for future travel, as well as a $150 voucher for another flight.

Flair Airlines stated that it is reviewing its policies and procedures to forestall further occurrences of such incidents.
