Despite the nation’s skyrocketing foreign debts and ailing economy, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has released N6.25billion for the establishment of cattle ranches in local councils affected by banditry in Katsina State.
According to NAN, Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu made the announcement.
The DG, who is also Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, spoke at the Ranch Stakeholders Development Meeting in Katsina.
It was reported that local government areas where the grazing reserves would be established are Jibia, Batsari, Dutsinma, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa and Dandume.
Yakubu also clarified that part of the funds released will be used to construct schools, health centres and veterinary clinics in the villages hosting the reserves.
The State’s number two man assured that the federal and the state governments are determined to ensure peace in places by cattle rustling, kidnapping and other criminalities.
He said “We are soliciting the support and cooperation of the affected communities to provide suitable sites for the execution of these projects”.
Meanwhile, Nigerian universities are still on the industrial action they embarked on since February 14, a move that is aimed at forcing the government to implement the FG/ASUU 2009 Agreement which stipulated how the nation’s university education should be funded.
The Buhari-led government had reportedly told the union that the government lacked the fund to implement the agreement.
