Facebook has made it known that the long-awaited decision on the fate of former United States President, Trump’s Facebook account will be announced.
Facebook suspended Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts after the January 6 Capitol riots in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results. Also, Twitter and YouTube suspended the former President’s account on the grounds of ongoing risk of violence and incitement.
At the time of suspension, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg wrote: “We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great.”
Recently, Facebook revealed that its long-anticipated decision on the fate of former President Trump’s Facebook account would be announced by its Oversight Board very soon.
Last month, the Facebook Oversight Board said it had received more than 9,000 public responses in respect of Trump’s indefinite suspension from Facebook and Instagram.
As a result of the complaints/responses, Facebook delegated the decision to the Oversight board- an independent body that possess power to reverse content decisions and set precedent for Facebook.
