Many people have died in an explosion that occurred in Sabon Gari area of Kano State some hours ago.
Reports are still flowing in and it remains unclear if the explosion was from a gas leakage or a bomb.

No fewer than three people were later confirmed dead with many people injured and trapped as a result of the explosion that rocked a shopping complex in the Sabongari area in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
Peter Danjuma, an eyewitness and resident of Sabon Gari who spoke to newsmen shortly after the explosion, said: “Though we don’t know the details yet, so far, three people have been confirmed dead. Others were injured while some pupils of a nearby school are still trapped.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Dikko, who visited the scene, disproved the suicide bombing theory and attributed the incident to a gas cylinder explosion.
He said: “The explosion was from gas leakage. The seller’s shop is on the ground floor of a shopping complex which also has a school, so when the cylinder exploded, it brought down the building and the pupils got injured. There wasn’t a bomb blast.”
In the same vein, the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, corroborated Dikko’s statement by insisting that the incident occurred at a store opposite the school along Aba Road, Sabon Gari.

Garba said though what caused the explosion and its level of damage have not been officially ascertained, an investigation has commenced to find out the cause, impact and measures to be taken. He called on the good people of Kano state to remain calm while government collaborates with relevant agencies to work on the matter.
