Nigerian-American, Esther Agbaje, who contested the Minnesota House of Representatives election on the platform of Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, the Democratic Party’s affiliate Party, has won the election.
The 35-year-old Nigerian-American who is the daughter of an Episcopal priest defeated Republican Alan Shilepsky and Green Party candidate Lisa Neal-Delgado to emerge as downtown and north Minneapolis’s representative in the state House.
Agbaje possesses a Law degree from Harvard, a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and she has worked for city government and a renowned law firm.
Her intimidating resume is a proof that she is tailor-made for a contest for public office.
While announcing her victory on her official Twitter, she tweeted: “I’m honored to have earned the support and trust of my neighbors to serve as their representative for #MN #HD59B. From North #MPLS to North Loop, Elliot Park to Bryn Mawr, I will work hard everyday to represent this entire district with empathy, compassion and pride. #ThankYou!”
As a result of this victory, Agbaje becomes the first Nigerian-American in Minnesota’s legislature.
