Environment Canada has issued an air quality statement for New Brunswick in response to wildfires in Quebec. The initial statement covered the northern parts of New Brunswick but has been expanded to include almost the entire province, excluding areas along the Fundy coast and Charlotte County.
The agency noted that some of the smoke is likely to reduce to near ground level, posing health risks, particularly for residents with lung or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant individuals, and those that work outdoors.
Environment Canada advises residents to always shut their doors and windows and they should wear a well-fitting respirator like the N95 while going out. The air quality statement is currently in effect without a specified end time.
