Emeka Anyaoku, Pa Adebanjo, Agbakoba, Others Announce ‘Rescue Nigeria’ Agenda

Former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Emeka Anyaoku; leader of Yoruba socio-political organization, Pa Ayo Adebanjo; former Minister of Finance, Idika Kalu and others have announced a new agenda to rescue Nigeria.

The other people are human rights activist, Solomon Asemota; former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah; former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba and at least 70 others.

This was announced in a communique issued at the end of a Special Assembly of Eminent National Leaders, famously known as The Patriots held in Lagos State and signed by the General Secretary of the assembly, Olawale Okunniyi.

The forum revealed that the patriots would rally the Nigerian stakeholders during the burial of its leader, Ben Nwabueze.

The Assembly asserted that the resolution was made by them during a meeting that took place at The Patriots’ National Secretariat at the FRA Williams Chambers, Ilupeju, Lagos, where they also talked about the funeral arrangements for their late Chairman, Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN) and approved the burial plans submitted to by the family which starts from Friday February 23, 2024.

The communique revealed further that most parts of the funeral programme had been designated to organize Nigerian stakeholders towards political reconciliation and the re-engineering of Nigeria.

It read: “The Patriots in session later reviewed the state of affairs in Nigeria and again expressed very serious concern and apprehension about the prevailing insecurity of life and properties in the country, the deterioration in the economic conditions of Nigerians, including the massive poverty among the general populace as well as the worsening conditions of sections of Nigeria’s national infrastructure.

“As a way forward, The Patriots reiterated its position that to tackle Nigeria’s deep national challenges effectively, there is an urgent need to give the country a new democratically generated people’s constitution.

“The meeting then went on to discuss the modalities for achieving this crucial objective for the unity, stability and prosperity of Nigeria.

“A detailed roadmap and programme of action of The Patriots for mobilising Nigerian Stakeholders towards rescuing Nigeria from its longstanding political and economic constitutional crisis will be published at the end of the next assembly of The Patriots next year.”
