The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has clarified his comments that suggested he would not support any northern candidate contesting for the 2023 presidential election.
It was reported that the governor said he would only support a southerner as stipulated by the zoning arrangement within parties across the country.
The Governor has repeatedly said it would only be fair if power return to the south in 2023.
While answering a question on a Channels TV programme recently in respect of his position, El-Rufai seemed to have taken a u-turn as he claimed he never said he would not support a northerner or a southerner, but he was only expressing an opinion.
The implication of this is El-Rufai’s fresh comments will protect him from charges of betrayal or contradiction if he decides to support a northerner in 2023.
