An Edmonton CFL footballer has been criticised for a homophobic tweet he posted on global Pride celebrations day.
Edmonton player, Christion Jones tweeted to voice out his opposition to gay and lesbian relationships on Saturday, as people celebrated Global Pride Day worldwide.
While voicing out his opposition, he tweeted: “Man ain’t suppose to be with a man. A women is not supposed to be with another women.”
The tweet was immediately labeled as hateful by people on Twitter but Jones stood by his comments replied over 50 tweets posted by his detractors over five hours.
He tweeted: “I STAND ON WHAT I SAY. Regret nothing. Apologize to who???”
People that criticised Jones stated that he was using his public platform of over 10,000 followers to denigrate LGBTQ relationships in a way that worsens discrimination. In his response, he said his critics were trying to censor him.
Some users of Twitter users started tagging Edmonton football team’s account while responding, asking the team if they would permit homophobic comments from a player.
A spokesperson of the team has however come out to say the club is aware of the tweets and is working on a response.
