Canadian rapper Drake has made a surprising announcement, revealing his decision to step away from his music career temporarily due to ongoing health concerns. This news came just hours after he released his latest album.
Speaking on his SiriusXM radio show Table For One, Drake candidly stated, “I probably won’t make music for a little bit, I’m gonna be honest. I need to focus on my health first and foremost… I need to get right.” He went on to explain that he has been grappling with recurring stomach issues for several years.
Drake, a 36-year-old Grammy Award winner, had recently unveiled his highly anticipated studio album titled “For All The Dogs.” The album featured collaborations with prominent artists such as Bad Bunny, J. Cole, SZA, Lil Yachty, and included a sample from Frank Ocean.
The cover art for the album was created by his five-year-old son, Adonis, who also appeared in a music video for one of the album’s new singles, “8AM in Charlotte.” Drake’s son even made a guest appearance in one of the tracks, “Daylight.”
As a consequence of his hiatus, several of Drake’s upcoming concerts in the United States have been canceled or postponed, as indicated on his website and Ticketmaster.
Despite his temporary departure from music, Drake emphasized that he intends to fulfill any prior commitments he has made to others.
He mentioned, “I got some other things I need to do for some other people that I made promises.” Regarding the duration of his break, he remarked, “I’m gonna lock the door in the studio for a little bit… I don’t even know what a little bit is. Maybe a year or so, maybe a little longer.”
Notably, throughout his musical career, the multi-platinum-selling artist has often incorporated elements of his Jewish background into his work.
This has included music videos featuring Orthodox weddings and references to Jewish traditions, as well as playful nods to his heritage, such as his “re-bar mitzvah” concept in a music video.
