Dr. Akolisa Ufodike has been appointed to the Senate of the University of Calgary by the Minister of Advanced Education, Demetrios Nicolaides for a three-year term.
The appointment, which starting date is July 2021 will run through 2024.
It is important to note that Ufodike is an assistant professor in the School of Administrative Studies where he teaches auditing. He is a licensed public practitioner by the Chartered Professional Accountants in Canada.
Prior to Academia, he spent 25 years as a finance executive with professional experience spanning telecoms, banking, utilities, education, oil and gas and consumer packaged goods with organizations including Bell Canada and Molson Coors.
He has been responsible for structuring financing for projects in various sectors and has created value in several entrepreneurial and start-up ventures in which he has been involved.
Dr. Ufodike was co-founder and CFO for Jaguar Wireless, a participant in the 2007 Canadian wireless spectrum auction. His last role in industry was as CFO and COO of Corridor Communications Inc (CCI Wireless) on of Canada’s largest wireless ISP’s.

A graduate of Haskayne’s PHD and Cornell’s MBA program, Dr. Ufodike is a Canadian FCGA and FCPA, a US CPA, a UK FCCA and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He’s also a Certified Director ICD.D of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Dr. Ufodike sits on Provincial Audit Committee for Alberta. He is a director of Kainji Resources Ltd. and previously sat on the board of the Loyalist Group, a TSX Listed Company where he was also Chair of the Audit Committee.
He has served on the board of several charities including Imagination150!, Peel Literacy Guild where he was also treasurer and the Black Business and Professional Association. Dr. Ufodike also previously served as treasurer for the largest Scouts Canada Council in Canada and thereafter as the Chairman.
In a similar development, the Minister of Advanced Education, Demetrios Nicolaides has appointed Chinedu Ogbonna to the Senate of the University of Alberta for a 3-year term starting from July 2021 and ending in 2024.
It is important to note that Chinedu Ogbonna serves as a member on the Alberta College and Association of Opticians Council, a member on Pet Food Association of Canada, and a member on the Regulatory Affairs and International Subcommittee with the Pet Food Institute. He is certified by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists and has a Master’s degree in Cellular Parasitology. He has post-graduate certificates in Regulatory Affairs from Humber College and Infection Control from UBC.
Competencies required for members of the Senate of The University of Alberta include relationship building and community partnerships. Mr. Ogbonna was directly appointed on the basis of meeting these competencies as described above.
