Do you have the spirit of Esau? By Pastor Amos Dada PhD; P.Eng

Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.[a]) 31 Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” 32 Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and (A)sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.Gen 25:29-34

If you have not read what the Holy Spirt taught me on “ Are you a Judas betraying Jesus?” and “Are you denying Jesus like Peter?” please do so before reading this!
My observation is that instead of us learning from these experiences, we  talk about them and do worse things. Learn from the mistakes of others not yours!

Before writing this I read about a highly respected minister in the Anglican Church with a big ministry that was sacked because he had a one night affair with one of his parishioners. You loose your lifelong career because of a minute enjoyment! A celebrated billionaire businessman lost his life to a side chick in a one night affair.

The president of the International Monetary Fund(IMF) lost the job because he slept with a hotel cleaner!  Reuben lost his birthright because of the one night affair with his father’s concubine! I mention these examples because I don’t want you to be the next victim of Esau’s careless and destructive mentality: Esau was a type and a spirit that God hates because God as omniscient (all knowing God) foresaw he will not be able to carry the mantle of the nation Israel He was about to build! God wanted to raise a nation from Israel and a resilient, powerful, productive, and intelligent people like the Jews. When God says he hates Esau it means he prefers Jacob.

Check to see if you have the spirt of Esau from this list:

1. When you devalue what God had ordained for you and settle for what gives you immediate gratification. The spirit of mediocrity.

2. When you carry an elephant on your head and you are using your leg to search for a cricket. You envy what the other man has oblivious of what God has endowed you with.

3. When you don’t value what is valuable and you trade it for the ephemeral.

4. When you don’t value your marriage. For example you pursue divorce because of alimony or child support or other reasons at the expense of a glorious marriage where you can jointly raise future leaders.

5. When you pursue worldly gains at the expense of your soul. “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? Matt 16:26

6. When you, because of securing a job loose your virginity or sleep with a man.

7. When you engage in money ritual for power, fame and prosperity for 7 years or less, for a full life that God has given you .

8. When because of immediate need you sell a future and generation. Esau said “ I will die now if I don’t eat this porridge” who dies because he missed supper one day?

9. When you sell your family land, property not for investment purposes but for party and immediate enjoyment.

10. When you borrow money to feed unimpressive guests during  wedding, burial, naming ceremony etc.

11. When you have I don’t care attitude.

12. When you have a fast- life mentality Jer 17:11

13. When as a pastor/ minister/ GO/ Bishop /Apostle all your preaching is focused on material wealth, prosperity, get rich quick etc without emphasis on hard work , due process, holiness, integrity, you have  an Esau spirit and unfortunately you are producing another generation of Esaus.

14. When you invest in Ponzi scheme, money doublers, give $10 today expect $10,000 tomorrow!

15. Whatever you are doing that will make God “hate” you and prefer Jacob (another person) to you.

16. When you don’t value your future. For example When you are living your life thoughtlessly as a youth without thinking of the consequences tomorrow. For instance, a man sleeping around producing baby mamas with  children you cannot care for or a woman sleeping around committing abortion, not thinking of the blood of children that will cry for revenge, and the possibility of loosing your womb and being unable to bear children when you really need them. Weeping like Esau!

17. When you don’t value the position God has entrusted to you. For example  you steal government money to build mansions, buy cars you and your children will not be able to maintain when you leave that position.

18. When you don’t value education. For example if now you should be in school but you are carrying masquerade in the village or for those in the urban areas, wasting away your destiny on social media, playing games, watching pornography etc. This is time that could be spent innovating, creating and building a future for yourself and generations to come.

19. When you loose your opportunity to the Jacobs and now see the Jacobs as your enemies, not realizing that you are the one that made bad choices.

20. When you make hasty decisions or take decisions under pressure without thinking it through! For instance you have an erection and because of that you rape a woman and spend the rest of your life in jail!

Conclusion: The Holy Spirit intends to save you from a life of regret, misery, weeping, losses of divine blessings that is why you are reading this. We must learn to wait on God. Don’t be anxious for material possessions and financial support at the expense of your Divine calling and inheritance. The guide whenever you want to take a decision, a hasty decision is to ask yourself is this a mussel of porridge for my birthright? If it is drop it right there!

I can assure you, it is not worth it. Ask Esau, who when he finally saw his mistake, wanted to reverse, it was too late(Hebrews 12)!! There are some mistakes that are irreversible. May you not make any of such. I say again saints, Beware of the Esau Spirit.

Shalom!–

O taste and see that the Lord is good.(Psalm 34:8). I have tasted and found that the Lord is good. I do testify that the Lord is good.Join me to taste him.
