Diaspora Day 2018 – The quest to reignite the passion for the prosperity of a nation. Continental Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Europe, Kenneth Gbandi makes a passionate plea for more diaspora involvement in the transformation of Nigeria, says Diaspora day UK has come to stay.
In a passionate appeal to patriots and those who share in the common destiny of Nigeria, the Diaspora community in the UK has been urged to be more proactive and make right all things that is wrong regarding the Nigerians in the diaspora community.
In a press release dated 23rd of April, 2018 and titled; “Why we need to stand our ground on Diaspora Day 2018” Mr Kenneth affirmed his commitment to the course of building a strong verile NIDO capable of implementing its noble objectives. The statement reaffirmed the decision of the NWW to make changes in “the way Diaspora Day (DD) is celebrated,” and that a DD celebration was “progressive and necessary.”
Towards the success of the DD 2018, the NIDO Europe (BOT) has suspended all programs by all chapters in accordance with the NIDOWW initiative through a clear democratic process. The chairman noted that regardless of a last minute change by the office of the SGF and NNVS, the 2018 Diaspora Day will still go ahead.
He debunked insinuations that there was rancor in the NWW, “The current position by some individuals suggesting a disagreement in NWW is totally unpatriotic and uncalled for.” The chairman stated.
He however admitted to the challenges faced by successive NIDO leadership and praised the the zeal and commitment of its leadership and any perceived divisions are orchestrated by outsiders who have ulterior motives.
The diaspora community according to the statement is not opportunistic, “One of the driving ideas of the first International Edition of the DD 2018 in the UK is because some of our policy makers in Nigeria consider Diaspora people as unserious opportunists only looking for government appointments or patronage. We needed to correct such uncharitable and misguided impressions.” The statement concluded. The Diaspora Day 2018 comes up on the 25th – 28th of July and individuals can register for free on
