Kellie Chauvin, the wife of Derek Chauvin, the cop that killed George Floyd by kneeling on his neck during his arrest, has filed for divorce.
In a statement issued by Kellie’s lawyer, Kellie Chauvin said last night she would split from her husband, who has been charged with murder in Minneapolis.
According to Kellie Chauvin’s legal team at Sekula Law Offices, the former Mrs. Minnesota is “devastated” by Floyd’s death and she extends her “utmost sympathy” to his family.
The statement from Sekula Law Offices reads: “This evening, I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family. She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy.
“While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”
Kellie’s announcement came few hours after police apprehended Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis and charged Derek with third-degree murder.
However, an autopsy report revealed yesterday that Derek and three other policemen’s violent restraint contributed to the death of Floyd.
The Medical Examiner of Hennepin County also disclosed that Floyd had “underlying conditions” which include coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease and these conditions played a role in his death.
According to WTVO, the Medical Examiner reported that “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”
