“ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: “ “We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error “ 1 Jn 41-2,6
In Parts 1 & 2 of this series I dealt with errors that you do and you can correct and errors that you do and leads to death. My focus today is errors that you commit that lead to eternity in hell if not corrected. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Jn 8:32 The most important thing is to correct these errors because I don’t want you to go to hell as I don’t want to go to hell!
Mistakes are the wrong you do ignorantly, error is the wrong thing that you do when you actually know what is right and it has spiritual dimensions. While some mistakes have trivial impact some have very serious impact. You can be cruising your Range Rover and you do your best to keep the speed limit but as you are enjoying your day you go from 100km/hr to 140km/hr and you earn yourself a ticket. On the other hand, if you marry someone because of the statistics you may find out you marry a wrong person, and it may decide whether you will enjoy the rest of your life or not.
Examples of spirit of error abound in our culture and it’s eating up our traditional and biblical values today. The spirit of same-sex marriage and transgenderalism is the spirit of error. Sex within marriage is not just for recreational purposes but for procreational purposes. The idea of transgenderalism because of “feelings” is untenable, because sexual organs compare to your head, feet and other parts of the body are for specific purpose that cannot be changed!
Another prevalent spirit of error is that all religions serving the same God but with different names and methods. You will not be able to access the same God by killing and maiming people and the other one by preaching love and confessing their sins to Jesus.
Another indication of the spirit of error in operation is for a person to practice two religions at the same time. Such persons might be in church and yet practice their traditional religion, participate in masquerade activities and other idol worship or sponsor it what I call worshiping idol by “proxy”. As mentioned, the definition of spirit of error is knowing the right thing and doing the wrong thing irrespective of your argument!
Various religions in the world acknowledge the fact that there is a sovereign God, but Christianity acknowledges the sonship, messiah-ship, and the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Jesus says I am the way truth and the life” The spirit of error is engineered by deception. This deception is to degrade, denigrate or totally deny the personality of Jesus Christ. Most times scripture associates’ spirit of error with false prophets. In the scripture above and “For there shall arise false christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Matt 24:24.
False teachers and prophets are not only in the church but outside the church. 1 Jn 4:1 says anyone that denies the personality of Jesus as the Messiah is into deception- The evolutionists, New Agers, Postmodernists Eastern Religion teachers are false prophets according to Matt 24:10
Examples of false teachings include but not limited to the following:
1. The spirit of hyper grace- the spirit that says you don’t need to repent and confess Jesus to be born again.
2. The spirit that says Jesus is not the only way to heaven, or even says any other way but Jesus
3. The spirit that says- the bible is written by human beings and as such it cannot be the book to take you to heaven.
4. The spirt that says once saved is forever saved even when you are drinking sin like water.
5. The doctrine of purgatory that says, if you leave this place, you have a place in-between heaven and earth where you can make amends
6. The spirt of error is the spirit that says your sins past, present and future are taken care of as long as you have confessed Jesus as Lord. Even if you are doing all bad stuff, you are covered No.
The character and methods of false teachers are exposed in the Scriptures.
1. They preach another gospel and a different Jesus from the one revealed in Scripture (1 Cor. 16:22; 2 Cor. 11:4; Gal. 1:6–9).
2. They speak “a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the LORD” (Jer. 23:16) and prophesy lies in God’s name, trying to make His people forget about Him and His Word (Deut. 18:20–22; Jer. 23:25–27).
3. They dismiss guilt and justify sin, calling evil good and good evil (Isa. 5:20).
4. They “make captives of gullible women” who are loaded down with sinful lusts—women who are “always learning” some new “truth” but never embrace the truth (2 Tim. 3:6–7).
5. They “secretly bring in destructive heresies” (2 Pet. 2:1).
6. They speak great “swelling words of emptiness” and entice people through the flesh, promising them liberty but enslaving them (2 Pet. 2:18–21).
7. They cause dissension in the church (Rom. 16:17) as “untaught and unstable” people follow their example and twist Scripture for their own purposes (2 Pet. 3:16). False apostles often appear to be apostles of Christ (2 Cor. 11:13).
Conclusion: The ultimate consequence of spirit of error which is the spirt of deception is to disconnect you from God Almighty on earth here as he did with Adam and Eve when they ate the forbidden fruit and died spiritual death and were thrown out of Garden of Eden. The second one is to cause you to be eternally separated from Jesus like the “rich man” Lk 16. And as described in “ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” Rev 21:8. The solution to this is “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God(V) so that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 Jn 5:11-13.
