Popular award-winning Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, best known as Davido has said he would add N50m to the N200m he received from fans, friends and families as donations and give it all to orphanage homes across the country.

Recall that ahead of his birthday, the multi-award-winning songwriter had posted a video on his Instagram, calling on those he had helped in the music industry to send him N1m. Davido had stated that he wanted money to clear his Rolls Royce from the port.

Davido said: “We rise by lifting others abi? Me, I don dey rise dey lifting others for the past 100 years. So, I want to know who my friends are. All of my friends one one million Naira. They said we are 30BG. If you don’t send your own. You out of here. You are gone…” (sic).”

In view of the call, the singer got cash donations from the public to the tune of N200m. In a statement via his Twitter handle, he said he would add N50m to the amount received for donation to orphanage homes across the country, including a non-governmental organisation, Paroche Foundation.

Davido added that a five-person disbursement committee has been set up to oversee the fund’s distribution to beneficiaries.

They are: Mrs. Titi Adebayo, as the Chairman; Prof. Jonathan Nwosu (secretary); Prof. Yahana Joel Asabe of the Northern Nigeria Seventh Day Adventist Union Conference, Pastor (Dr) Oyalabu of Spring Time Development Foundation and Prof. Uloma Onuoha as members.

“The committee will compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria. It will determine the number of children and their needs and then decide the funds accordingly. The committee will also determine the portion of money that will be donated to Paroche Foundation. To maintain transparency, the committee will make public the names of beneficiaries and how much each will receive. A list of all beneficiaries and their verified account details will be submitted to a specified bank that will then be instructed to credit each beneficiary’s account…

“My goal is to give back to people in need. It is my hope that my friends, fans, colleagues in the industry, and the public will continue to support me, as I drive this cause”.
