Couple nabbed in Zimbabwe for Offering False Job Placements in Canada, UK, and Ireland

A couple offering fake job placements in Canada, the UK, and Ireland to Zimbabweans who were looking to relocate has been arrested by Zimbabwean police.

The couple has been identified as Sitshengisiwe Ndlovu and Alison Unami. They are alleged to have defrauded their victims to the tune of $134,552 between August 2022 and May 3, 2023. The two posed as agents of an undisclosed company and promised to get jobs and work permits in these three countries for Zimbabweans that want to relocate.

The suspects demanded a payment of $4,000 for processing of the purported employment opportunities, with interviews conducted via WhatsApp. The processing was promised within three weeks, but the suspects gave excuses when the waiting period lapsed.

The couple was nabbed in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, and the police have advised the public to remain cautious and research well before engaging individuals or employment agencies claiming to help with job placements abroad.

On May 3, Alison Unami was arrested by police in Bulawayo after one of the complainants reported him. The suspect was nabbed while loading property into a vehicle, as the couple prepared to leave their offices. Sitshengisiwe Ndlovu, was later arrested at Bulawayo Police Station, when she visited her husband.

The police disclosed that the arrests were effected in connection with 46 counts of fraud between August 2022 and May 3, 2023. The 46 victims fell for the scam and were swindled approximately $134,552 in total.
