Ontario’s Attorney General Doug Downey has announced the appointments of Christopher Uwagboe, Sarah Tarcza, and Raymond Williams as new judges to the Ontario Court of Justice.
Chief Justice Lise Maisonneuve assigned Uwagboe to Winsor while Tarcza and Williams will be in Barrie.
Justice Uwagboe was called to the bar in 2007. He began his legal career with the London Middlesex Crown Attorney’s Office. He opened a private practice representing clients in real estate, criminal defence, small claims, and immigration cases in 2011.
He served as a per diem prosecutor for the Crown Attorney’s Office and the Ministry of Transportation in London while in private practice and was appointed to Legal Aid Ontario’s board of directors and chaired the operations committee in 2021.
He has passion for career development, networking, and mentorship. Also, he has spoken on panels and mentored paralegal candidates from triOS College and Fanshawe College, law students and Black students at Western University, and professionals at the Ontario Association of Black Paralegals. He was the president of the National Executive of the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada when he was in law school
Justice Williams was admitted to the bar in 2002. He has been an assistant Crown attorney and has worked in Crown Attorney’s Offices in Simcoe County, Kitchener, and Hamilton since then. He has prosecuted coroner’s inquests, dangerous offender and long-term offender hearings, and murder trials. Also, he served as an assistant Crown attorney in all satellite courts in Simcoe County.
Tarcza was called to the bar in 2005. She worked as an assistant Crown attorney in Barrie and became the deputy Crown attorney in 2019. She has collaborated with other justice partners to develop and improve processes to change the Ontario Court of Justice to a virtual platform in Simcoe County.
