According to the official Xinhua news agency, China has passed an education law that aims to cut the “twin pressures” of homework and off-site tutoring in major subjects.
The country has exerted a more positive paternal hand in 2021, which ranges from tackling the addiction of youngsters to online games, to reducing “blind” worship of internet celebrities.
China’s parliament revealed that legislation would be considered for punishing parents if their kids exhibit “very bad behaviour” or perpetrate crimes.
The agency said though the new law has not been published in full, it makes local governments responsible for making sure that the twin pressures are brought down and tasks parents to organize their children’s time to account for rest and exercise that are reasonable, which in turn will reduce pressure, and avoid overuse of the internet.
Recently, the education ministry has restricted gaming hours for minors, permitting them to play online for 1 hour on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.
Also, the ministry has cut back on homework and prohibited after-school tutoring for core subjects during the weekend and holidays.
