Forestry company, Canfor, has announced that its Chetwynd operations have been closed permanently while its Houston sawmill has been closed temporarily. This development will affect around 400 jobs.

Canfor revealed it was shutting its Chetwynd sawmill and pellet plant as part of operations restructuring process. In contrast, the temporary closure of its sawmill in Houston is part of a restructuring that focuses on manufacturing.
However, the union representing workers at both locations estimated that no fewer than 400 people would be out of a job.
The announcement came two weeks after the forestry company announced the loss of 300 jobs as it shut down one of its Prince George pulp lines.
