Two states in the United States issued air quality alerts recently as heavy smoke from fires blazing in Alberta drifted to these states.

Associated Press reported that residents of Colorado and Montana have experienced air quality issues due to dozens of Canadian fires. A third state, Utah, revealed that it had started seeing see smoke, while Idaho experienced haze last week.

In its alert, Colorado’s Department of Public Health and Environment said: “People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion; everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.”

The department issued air quality alerts and advisories for the eastern part of the state, including Denver.

The quality of air is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups when particle pollution is between 151 and 200.

The AP reported that parts of Colorado’s Front Range were at 168 recently.

In Alberta, fires have triggered the evacuation of thousands of residents. According to the AP, the health impact was “very high risk” on Saturday in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton.

In Montana, the smoke was mostly in the central and eastern parts of the state.

Montana Department of Environmental Quality in its alert advised residents to avoid outdoor exertion if they see haze or smoke.
