Minister of Small Business, Export Development and International Trade of Canada, Mary Ng has extolled the virtues of the United States to abolish the earlier imposed aluminum duties. The Minister praised the United States government during a press conference in Ottawa.
While talking about the decision, the Minister said: “The US today announced its intention to retroactively remove tariffs on Canadian aluminum imports from September 1, 2020. Canada welcomes this decision.
“I can announce that Canada will not introduce retaliatory measures against the United States.”
It should be recalled that the US President Donald Trump announced last month that with effect from August 16, the US will impose customs duties on aluminum imports from Canada at a rate of 10%.
The country’s authorities announced in mid-August that they would close the border with the United States till the end of September because of the pandemic while Canadian media reported that the restrictions will not be lifted until November.
