A Nigerian lady, Kaosiso Ezibe, who was arrested and standing trial in a Canadian court over an alleged $291,000 online scam in 2019 has been discharged by the court.
The 24-year-old lady based in Vaughan was taken to court after a woman reported a scam case and claimed she was scammed by a person she met online.
According to the Police, a 60-year-old woman met someone who claimed to be a wealthy architect in Toronto through an online dating website.
Between February and March 2019, the woman commenced an online relationship with the architect and was conversing with him through emails, text messages and phone calls.
The police discovered that the wealthy architect was a fabricated identity, as such, a suspect was identified by the police and the suspect is Kaosiso Ezibe.
Ezibe was arrested charged with fraud, laundering and possession of crime proceeds.
However, Kaosiso Ezibe has been declared not guilty and as such been discharged and acquitted of the said crime after several months of legal battle.
