Canada’s Olympic champions’ women’s team will compete in the forthcoming SheBelievesCup under protest.
However, the team insisted that their fight is not over. They threatened more boycotts if their demands for pay equity are not met.
As their preparations intensify for this year’s World Cup, which the Canadians are hopeful they can win, team members from Canada had a virtual call with the media recently before they take on world champions and hosts, the United States, in the opening match of the four-nation SheBelieves competition.

Captain Christine Sinclair in a letter said: “There’s a FIFA window coming up in April. We have said that if things are not just addressed if things aren’t fixed, we won’t be going to that camp.
“So playing this tournament in protest is a temporary solution.”
The players said the “disgusting” remuneration discrepancy between the Canada men’s and women’s soccer programmes became so clear in Qatar, where Canada’s men soccer National Team made their first World Cup appearance in 37 years.
