Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that Canada will provide $25 million to Palestinians that were affected by a recent conflict with the Israelis in Gaza Strip and West Bank.

In a news release, Trudeau made it known that the fund will be disbursed to experienced organizations that will help the most vulnerable Palestinians cope after the conflict.

Trudeau said: “The recent violence in the region is alarming — we have all seen the disturbing images of displaced civilians, loss of life and pain inflicted on families.”

The aid from Canada will include $10 million for urgent food assistance, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene, and psychosocial support for children. Another $10 million will be deployed towards humanitarian and rebuilding efforts, like important medical infrastructure.

Also, up to $5 million will be dedicated by Canada for peace-building initiatives between the Palestinians and Israelis.

While talking about the aid during an interview, International Development Minister, Karina Gould said “we have to deal with the immediate humanitarian situation on the ground in Gaza today.”

“It means providing some psychosocial support to people who have experienced the violence over those 11 days.

“It means providing health services to people who have been injured, but also supporting the health facilities that have been damaged.”

The Minister said there was a need to make sure there is working civilian infrastructure in Gaza.

She said: “People can access health facilities, so that they can drive on roads and children can go to schools. Those repairs need to happen.”
