Toronto Police say a man will be charged with manslaughter after the victim of an alleged Canada Day assault died.
Emergency crews were called to a Queen and Sherbourne Sts. restaurant on July 1 at 10:10 p.m. for reports of an unconscious man. He was taken to hospital for injuries that police say did not initially appear to be life-threatening.
The next morning, hospital staff told police the man was on life support and not expected to survive.
Later that day, officers arrested Patrick Anthony Gayle, 46, of Toronto, and charged him with aggravated assault.
On July 6, Dwain Frederick Adams, 61, of Toronto, died in hospital. He is the city’s 33rd homicide victim of the year.
Gayle is to appear in College Park Courts on July 17 when his charges will be upgraded to manslaughter.
