Talks have begun between Canada and Taiwan for a deal to foster mutual foreign investment and strengthen their Indo-Pacific partnership.
Giants like Canada have been asked to offer Taiwan more diplomatic and moral support as it encounters increasing military and political pressure from China to accept Beijing’s claims of sovereignty over the island.

As part of that, Taiwan has been pursuing more trade agreements with Western countries.
Recently, the Canadian Trade Minister, Mary Ng, talked on the phone with Taiwan’s top trade negotiator John Deng about the importance of Taiwan and Canada working together.
These formal talks were about securing new investment opportunities that will support sustainable growth and guarantee good jobs in both countries.
The talks about “Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Arrangement” are in line with Canada’s plan to boost trade and influence in the expanding Indo-Pacific region.
