Portugal’s Ambassador to Canada, António Leão Rocha, has commended Canadian tourism to Portugal, stating that it creates stronger relationship between countries and communities. He made it known that this does not apply to only Canadians with Portuguese connections as those with no emotional connection to Portugal are visiting the country.
Also, the Ambassador highlighted the increase in Canada’s investment in Portugal, not only through the free trade agreement between Canada and the EU but in other areas. Though the investment of Portugal in Canada has not been as significant as the investment of Canada in Portugal, he said that the relationship is still beneficial to both countries.
Tourism is a major industry for Portugal, and the country has been actively branding itself as a safe and attractive destination for international visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic
Leão Rocha highlighted the positive impact of Canadian tourism on Portugal’s economy and reputation. He noted that Canadians are not only visiting Portugal as tourists but are also investing in the country and this has contributed to deepening the relationship between both countries.
The ambassador emphasized the significance of continued cooperation between Canada and Portugal to build on the progress achieved in recent years. He stated that there is potential for growth in areas like education, science, and technology, and that both countries can benefit from better collaboration.
