The Mayor of Brockville has resigned after moving into his “dream home” located outside eastern Ontario city.
In a statement, Jason Baker said he didn’t realize buying the home would disqualify him from serving as mayor, a post he has held since 2018.

The Municipal Act prohibits non-residents from serving as a Mayor in a city.
Baker was first elected to the city council in 1997. He said he was honoured to serve as mayor.
According to the City, his seat will be declared vacant by the council will declare his seat vacant during an upcoming meeting, where it would also announce the next steps.
The city said Coun. Jane Fullarton will serve as acting mayor in October.
