The police has confirmed that a Black man who screamed “I cannot breathe” when he was pinned down by a white Minneapolis police officer with his knee in Minnesota has died. The confirmation has sparked a lot of outrage from community leaders and members. It has also led to the officer’s termination.
The footage of the incident reveals the police officer pinning down George Floyd to the ground with his knee on the Floyd’s neck for many minutes. Also, Floyd was saying in the video: “Please, please, I cannot breathe.”
He was told by the officer to “relax”.
Floyd responded by saying: “I can’t breathe. Please, the knee in my neck.”
The officer persisted in holding down Floyd with his knee for many minutes while Floyd was begging and requesting for water.
While moaning and trying to cough, he cried: “My stomach hurts. My neck hurts. Please, please. I can’t breathe.”
Eventually, Floyd appeared motionless under the knee of the officer.
Those who were at the scene of the the incident can be heard pleading with the police to unpin Floyd.
Form the video, a voice could be heard saying: “He’s not f* moving. Get off of his f* neck.”
Meanwhile, what happened after the video was recorded is still unknown.
