The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the air on why Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and some other party stakeholders have not been involved in the campaign of the party’s presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
According to reports, Osinbajo, who contested the primaries with Tinubu, and some key members of the party have stayed away from APC Presidential campaign activities since it started.
Though the Vice President has continued to attend other social functions, he has never been seen close to Tinubu’s campaign nor has he publicly campaigned for the ambition of his once close political mentor.
Also, it has been observed on Osinbajo’s social media pages, where all his major activities are usually posted, that he has never shared any material to show support for Tinubu’s candidacy.
In his reaction to these, the APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesman, Festus Keyamo, said the continued absence of Osinbajo on the campaign trail was a result of the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the President, who doubles as the Chairman of the campaign council, has asked his Vice to focus on governance.
He said: “Rotimi Amaechi (former Minister of Transportation) was there in Adamawa State and Jos recently; he has been going to the rallies but he has picked the ones he wants to attend.
“For the Vice President, it was a directive for him to face governance, and you can see Mr President has been going round campaigning. Also, Ngige is not campaigning against our party, he just said he will remain neutral for his own reasons and that is just one minister out of 43.
“We have an absolutely strong coalition in the APC unlike the PDP that has virtually collapsed.”
