The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Canada, the union that represents West Jet pilots, has revealed that federal arbitration may be needed to avert a strike.
ALPA Canada represents 1,800 pilots at WestJet and its low-cost subsidiary Swoop. It disclosed it has been negotiating unsuccessfully with the company since September.

Bernie Lewall, Chairperson of the union’s WestJet Pilots Association said: “We’re getting very close, in our opinion, to being at an impasse.
“I think it is very likely that we’re going to enter conciliation soon — as far as a strike, I can’t say.
