An African family of five which include two children have been reportedly killed in a suspected arson attack that occurred in Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Djibril Diol, his wife, sister, daughter and niece all died in a recent house fire in Green Valley Ranch while three other residents who are adult escaped by jumping from the house.
Diol and his family immigrated from Senegal some years back and were staying in their friend’s apartment pending when they could get their apartment.
According to report, a police officer in Denver who noticed smoke in the area raised an alarm before police and firefighters came to the location.
When they got to the scene, it was rather too late to rescue the family who were all trapped inside.
Fire Captain, Greg Pixley revealed officers made several attempts to enter the home so they could rescue the trapped family members but were unable to enter owing to the intense flames which destroyed two neighboring homes.
According to Pixley, the incident could have been even worse if firefighters did not manage to halt the spread of the fire to the surrounding houses.
While talking about the incident, Denver Police Chief, Joe Montoya said the investigation is a homicide one.
He said: “We have indication through some evidence that it was an arson.” He however refused to comment further.
Fire investigators will work out modalities with the Denver Police Department’s homicide unit to determine the true story of the incident.
Friends of the family in the community said Diol was an engineer while his wife and sister both worked for Amazon.
