(NC) So many of us have been in hibernation for the past few years. It’s time to celebrate again with friends. Hosting the perfect party can be made easy with a little planning. Here are a few tips to make your next party one to remember:
Keep it simple
Most food and drink matches work, so don’t overthink it. You don’t want to be spending all of your time in the kitchen when you can be socializing and catching up with your guests. Choose food that requires minimal preparation or can be set up ahead of time, like dips, charcuterie boards, bruschetta and pizzas.

Create a theme
Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary or just a simple get together, having a theme in mind will give your party a focus and is a great conversation starter. Simple themes like sips and dips or your favourite TV show or book club read can be fun and memorable.
Know your audience
If you know your guests well, think about what they like and dislike and plan accordingly. Will they love to dissect details of food, drink and décor choices with you, or are they all about the music and company gathered together?
Go for crowd pleasers
When it comes to wine, sticking to people pleasers is a good way to go. For example, The Goat Lady Chardonnay from Speck Bros. ‘Family Tree’ is popular and pairs easily with soft cheeses and sharp cheddar. For a bolder red, Ontario-based Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery makes a delicious Baco Noir.

Design a cocktail
If you’re looking for a sparkler to toast a celebration, rather than creating your traditional mimosa with a splash of orange juice, try a party pleaser like Kir Catharine. Add 1 oz of Riesling Icewine or Red Icewine to 3 oz of Cuvée Catharine Brut, a traditional-method sparkling wine. On a budget? Substitute the delicious new Lazzara Bianco Secco sparkling wine instead.
