4,000 Nigerians volunteer to embark on voter education

More than 4,000 Nigerians from different backgrounds and professions from over 30 states have prepared to embark on a door-to-door campaign to educate the citizens ahead of 2019 elections.
The volunteers were members of the Team FD, an organisation founded by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the GEMSTONE Leadership Centre, Mr. Fela Durotoye.

Their resolve to embark on voter education and civic enlightenment was made at the group’s inaugural meeting recently, a statement said.

With the aim of initiating a national grassroots mobilisation for a new Nigeria, the volunteers said they were ready to enlighten Nigerians on the need to get their Permanent Voter Cards and be part of the political process.
“The volunteers would be deploying new technologies as well as person-to-person engagement,” the statement said.
Speaking at the event, Durotoye said he was overwhelmed by the number of those who had heeded his clarion call to build a new Nigeria and make the country one that is the most desirable place to live in by 2025.
“I was overwhelmed by the number of volunteers who signed on Team FD. The number, which I was told rose to over 4,000, before the end of the event, further convinced me that so many young Nigerians still have hope in their country. All they need is to be encouraged to live this hope and work for it,” he said.
Durotoye further explained that his desire to make Nigeria a country all Nigerians would be proud of prompted him to start the initiative, adding that his objective was to encourage Nigerians to see to the election of “credible leaders” rather than “rapacious rulers” in the country.
