The Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development has thrown its weight behind Igbo presidency in 2023.
The group said the presidency should be zoned to the Southeast.
While backing the zoning of 2023 presidency to Southeast, the body noted that its support emanated from the need for every zone to taste the presidency. The body however slammed the marginalisation of the Southeast since 1999.
The group’s National Coordinator, Zana Goni and National Women Leader, Mario Bichi, in a recent statement appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone their tickets to Southeast.
The statement emphasised the need for political interest groups to permit the Southeast rule Nigeria for justice and equity’s sake.
The group noted that since other regions have ran the affairs of Nigeria for years, every part of the country ought to be treated with fairness and equity as far as the country’s political affairs is concerned.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo was urged by the group to lobby other regions to support the ambition of the Southeast and the coalition vowed to mobilise support in a bid to achieve Igbo presidency in 2023.
