After a surprise party was thrown on May 30, a family in Texas has encountered 18 different cases of positive COVID-19 diagnoses.
According to reports, a member of the family who did not know he was infected was in contact with seven others during the party and these seven members passed the virus to 10 others.
Ron Barbosa, a member of the family, did not attend the party that his nephew hosted. While talking to the broadcast station, Barbosa said: “It wasn’t that long. It was only a couple of hours. But during that brief time, somehow the other 18 family members are now infected with COVID.”
Barbosa’s wife, a doctor, disclosed that she and her husband refused to go because of safety reasons.
Barbosa said: “When people started getting sick, we really let everyone have it. We knew this was going to happen. I mean this whole time this has been going on we’ve been terrified.”
Those infected with the virus include two children, two grandparents, Barbosa’s parents and Barbosa’s sister. Three of the infected family members have been hospitalized. Those hospitalized include Barbosa’s parents and his sister, Kathy, who is fighting breast cancer.
Barbosa said Kathy still contracted the virus despite the fact that she practiced social distancing on the porch outside. He added that Kathy is recovering well but his parents aren’t really improving.
Barbosa’s mother, Carole Barbosa was hospitalized on June 13 while his father, Frank Barbosa has been hospitalized since June 17.
While talking about his father’s condition, he said: “My dad’s hanging on by a thread. They’re saying this is one of the last straws for my dad.”
Barbosa posted a call-out for plasma from survivors of COVID-19 on Facebook on Wednesday and he announced the following day that his father had been transfused with plasma and is recovering.
