A 13-year-old girl has been offered admission to a medical school program just a year after completing high school.
The news was recently shared by Alena Analeigh Wicker on Instagram with her over 20,000 followers.
The teenager posted a picture of her acceptance letter and wrote: “I’ve worked so hard to reach my goals and live my dreams. Mama I made it.”
In a statement to CNN, the school confirmed she was accepted into the Burroughs Wellcome Scholars Early Assurance Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Heersink School of Medicine.
According to their website, the program is a partnership between the medical school and HBCU’s across Alabama, and it offers early acceptance to the students that meet the conditions for acceptance and matriculation.
Alena posted on Instagram that she graduated high school at the age of 12 in 2021 and she has already made a lot of impressive accomplishments.
During an interview with the Washington Post, she said: “I’m still a normal 13-year-old.”
According to the Washington Post, she’s currently a student of Arizona State University and Oakwood University earning two different undergraduate degrees in biological sciences.
When asked how she did it all at such a young age, she said: “I just have extremely good time management skills and I’m very disciplined.”
According to its website, she founded “The Brown STEM Girl,” to empower, engage and educate girls of color in STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Alena always updates the public on her journey through her Instagram and Facebook page, where she showcases her love and passion for STEM, NASA and Legos.
While talking to the Washington Post, Alena’s mother, Daphne McQuarter said she noticed her daughter’s intellect since she was a toddler.
