Barely a few weeks after appearing on parliamentary video call naked, William Amos, a Liberal MP for Pontiac, Quebec has been caught on camera peeing during a virtual House of Commons session.
In view of the incident, the MP has decided to step down from some duties.
In a statement on Twitter, Amos said “I urinated without realizing I was on camera”.
“I am deeply embarrassed by my actions and the distress they may have caused anybody who witnessed them.”
Amos will step down from his committee duties, his role as Parliamentary Secretary but will continue to serve as an MP while he seeks “assistance,” he said.
The MP added that “While accidental and not visible to the public, this was completely unacceptable, and I apologize unreservedly”.
Reacting to the development, the office of the Liberal government’s whip said that the incident is being taken “extremely seriously”.
Charles-Eric Lépine, spokesperson for Liberal government whip Mark Holland, said “It is important to have a safe workplace environment for everyone on Parliament Hill and we take these matters extremely seriously”.
Reports have it that this is the Liberal lawmaker’s second apology in just a little over a month. Recall that he flashed lawmakers and parliamentary staff during an internal parliamentary feed on April 14.
“I made a really unfortunate mistake today & obviously I’m embarrassed by it,” he wrote on Twitter on April 15. “My camera was accidentally left on as I changed into work clothes after going for a jog”
In view of the development, he had at the time vowed that appearing in a state of undress would be a one-time occurrence.
He wrote “It was an honest mistake + it won’t happen again”.
