The Vancouver School Board (VSB) is making efforts to find an alternate location for students of Sir James Douglas Elementary after the school was ravaged by flooding.
VSB staff disclosed that water pipes at the school in South Vancouver froze and burst during the recent cold weather and caused extensive flooding. School staff are looking for an alternate location for the school’s 525 enrolled students.

A spokesperson said: “The district recognizes this extenuating circumstance is challenging for staff, students, and families. It is our top priority to get the Douglas school community settled into a temporary school location as quickly as possible.”
Meanwhile, the school board revealed that the hired restoration company estimated it would take “at least a couple of months” of repair work before pupils can safely attend classes in the building.
